The genus Neofundulus, Myers 1924

The Neofundulus genus is one of the older genera in South American Cyprinodont fishes. Myers re- described this genus with N. paraguayensis as type species.

In 1903 Neofundulus paraguayensis was known by its former description as Fundulus paraguayensis by Eigenmann and Kennedy but was re- described by Myers in 1924.

The genus is strongly related to Trigonectes, Moema and Micromoema and many scientists have doubt if they can be merged into Trigonectes.

The genus is to be found in the Paraguay drainage as far south as Resistencia, Argentina and the Rio Sao Francisco in Brazil.
