The genus Benirivulus, Costa 2006

Benirivulus is considered to be a valid subgenus in Rivulus with Rivulus beniensis beniensis as the type species. The subgenus is described as monotypic because at the same time Costa (2006f) synonymizes all 3 related species into one. Two other species were Rivulus bolivianus and R. beniensis In 2011 Costa himselve merged this subgenus into Anablepsoides, a former subgenus elevated to genus. This move is not followed in this site.

Diagnosis: Distinguished by the 2 autapomorphic conditions in the color pattern of Anal fin, with one or two sub-basal rows of reddish brown close dots, sometimes forming lines, and in a broad dark grey distal zone on the Dorsal fin (Costa, 2006).
