Reproduction

It is a species that lives schools in lagoons and mangrove swamps and this fish loves a little brackish or salty water. Bottom is mostly sandy on the places they occur along the coast from the peninsula Yucatan down to Belize. The species is territorial in the breeding season and males fight for their territory which implicates that the species need a certain distance from other pairs during this breeding. Best is to keep it pair wise or as a trio. Lot of hiding places like plants are needed for females so they can hide if male get's to aggressive.

Females look similar to males but are much paler and have few orange spots. The fins are pale to colorless.

It is seldom seen in the tanks of Killi enthusiasts although it is very attractive and a good aquarium fish as well.
