History |
||||
| This species was originally described as Anablepsoides fransvermeuleni. This is not followed in this site. For detailed explanation see: <Oditichthys>< introduction>. Alternative name Rivulus (oditichthys) fransvermeuleni. Rivulus fransvermeuleni is described from western Suriname. It belongs to the putative R. igneus species group, whose members are restricted to the Guiana Shield, adjacent lowlands of Venezuela, and the Southern Lesser Antilles. The group currently includes: R. amphoreus, R. bondi, R. cajariensis, R. hartii, R. holmiae, R. igneus, R. immaculatus and R. waimacui. Rivulus fransvermeuleni is distinguished from all of these, except R. waimacui, by the presence of three interrupted stripes over a light blue background on the caudal peduncle, and a yellow distal margin on the caudal fin in males. Rivulus fransvermeuleni is distinguished from R. waimacui by subtruncate caudal fin and more scales in the transverse series. In addition males have red stripes on caudal peduncle and females a round black spot on the upper portion of the caudal-fin base.
