The genus Renova, Thomerson & Taphorn, 1995

The genus Renova was erected by Prof. Jaimie (Jim) Thomerson from the USA and Dr. Donald Taphorn from Guanare, Venezuela in 1995.

The genus contains only one specimen R. oscari and of course that is the monotypic Type species.

Renova belongs to the Family Rivulidae (Meyers 1925) and Subfamily Rivulinae. It is member of the Tribe Neofundulini (Costa 1990 and Subtribe Moemina (Costa 1998).

The name Renova is derivited from the latin words "re- and "nova" that both maen <renewed> and refers to the fact those fishes need to renew their complete population each rainy season.

As the name says the genus shows annual behavior.
